Overview
DUSTCELL is a duo formed by vocalist EMA and composer/arranger Misumi, active since October 2019. The project describes an amorphous, unrestricted existence beyond fixed human categories, turning voice, electronic production, lyrics, music video, and live staging into one visual and sonic system.
The name combines Dust and Cell. EMA has explained it as the idea that even an insecure individual can become part of a listener’s body or life through music. This gives the project a useful key: small and fragile individuals are not only consumed by the world; music can let them enter another person’s interior.
Creative Position
DUSTCELL moves between beauty and unease, pop accessibility and madness, electronic rhythm and vocal vulnerability. Misumi builds impact through sound design, beat, and spatial layers, while EMA provides a narrative anchor through a clear, highly recognizable voice that can move from restrained speech to explosive intensity.

Members
EMA
EMA is DUSTCELL’s vocalist. Her transparent, distinctive voice is not limited to conventional pop singing: she moves between low narration, sharp outbursts, near-rough edges, and long melodic lines. Her performance turns abstract lyrics into a concrete emotional entrance.
Misumi
Misumi is DUSTCELL’s composer and arranger and is also active as a Vocaloid producer. His solo work is known for fast melodies, sudden high-register turns, and sharp electronic colour. In DUSTCELL, that production language is fused with EMA’s human voice into the group’s “beauty and madness” sound.
Timeline
2019: Formation
- October 11: Released the first original song “CULT”.
- October 18: Announced participation in the newly established KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO.
- November 22: Released “STIGMA”, an important early work.
2020: Album and Live Foundation
- January 1: Opened Bilibili and Weibo channels for Chinese audiences.
- Released “LAZY”, “Heaven and Hell”, “DOMINATION”, “LILAC”, and “SOPPY”.
- May 20: Released the 1st full album SUMMIT.
- July 3: Converted the planned live into an audience-free stream because of the pandemic.
- July 31: Held the 1st ONE-MAN LIVE SUMMIT.
- November 15: Held the 2nd ONE-MAN LIVE HOWL in both online and in-person formats.
- December 23: Released “Mad Hatter”.
2021 and after
“Inochi no Yukue” became the 2021 HAL vocational school TV commercial song, and “Dokuhaku” continued the duo’s personal narrative. DUSTCELL has since expanded its original catalogue, live work, and connections with Kamitsubaki’s visual and stage projects.

SUMMIT is the first full album and the concentrated statement of the early sound. The pandemic-era conversion of its live into an audience-free stream preserved the album–live–image cycle, while HOWL established a simultaneous online and physical performance model.
Related Projects / Setting
DUSTCELL’s place in KAMITSUBAKI cannot be reduced to a management label. It connects a real singer, Vocaloid production, virtual-artist culture, music video direction, and live performance. The difference between EMA’s singer identity and Misumi’s producer identity is precisely what lets the duo move freely between human voice and electronic/virtual creation.
